You Can Find Clarity
Receiving that positive result isn’t enough to make an informed decision. An ultrasound is the standard tool used to confirm a viable pregnancy.
Haven of Hope Pregnancy Services will explain the importance of an ultrasound and help you access the support you need.
Why An Ultrasound?
An ultrasound scan uses low-power sound waves to create pictures of your body’s internal structures. During pregnancy, it can view your uterus and determine several critical details that assess your and the pregnancy’s health.
Early in pregnancy, a transvaginal ultrasound may be used, in addition to the abdominal ultrasound. This involves gently inserting a transducer (a wand-like device) into the vagina to produce the clearest images of an early pregnancy. Following those initial weeks, solely an abdominal ultrasound is used where the transducer is applied to the abdomen.
Having an ultrasound is a critical step for confirming your pregnancy, as it offers the following information:
Viability
Is your pregnancy progressing, and is there a heartbeat? As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, which may require further monitoring or medical treatment.
Gestational age
How far along are you in your pregnancy? Knowing this information will help determine your options. For example, the FDA has approved medical abortion through 10 weeks gestation.
Location
Is your pregnancy located in the uterus? Some women experience an ectopic pregnancy, which is when the fertilized egg implants in another location. This is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical treatment.
You owe it to yourself to learn more about your pregnancy and make a decision with the facts in hand. We can help.
